The programs are still functional, however some users are experiencing problems upgrading to the most recent version of the suite.
Why are Apple customers unable to install Office 2021 instead of 2019?
Before we get started, there’s one thing you should know. As new major versions of macOS become available, Microsoft will stop supporting the oldest version and instead support the two most recent versions.
On older systems, product functionality and feature availability may vary, therefore utilize the most recent version of any operating system for the optimal experience.
While the first edition of Office 2021 for Mac will install and run on macOS 10.14 Mojave, upgrades to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote will need macOS 10.15 Catalina or later in December 2021.
Your Office programs will continue to operate if you continue to use an earlier version of macOS, but you will no longer get any updates, including security upgrades.
Office updates for your applications will be distributed if you upgrade your operating system to macOS 10.15 or later. Note that new Office 2021 for Mac installations will also need macOS 10.15 or later.
What happens if I don’t upgrade to a supported version of macOS?
Your Office programs will continue to operate if you’re using an unsupported version of macOS, but you won’t get any updates, including security upgrades.
If you’re using macOS 10.15 and don’t upgrade to a supported version when macOS 10.15 is no longer supported, you won’t get any updates.
As new major versions of macOS are introduced and older versions become unsupported, we strongly advise you to keep your macOS up to date in order to get mainstream support, including security patches and new features.
MacOS Monterey will be commercially released in the autumn of 2021, and consumers will be able to participate in a public beta beginning in July.
You may test Monterey with the newest Office builds, but formal support will not begin until Monterey is released to the general public.
Many people are still experiencing issues with Office 2021 installation.
